'Still Running' Dufftown JS was set up in August 2008. It started with 14 members and has expanded to over 70 members. The group is supported by the Dufftown Well North Project which aims to improve the health and well-being of people. They generously funded the training for the 4 new Jogscotland leaders. Since then the group has gained an additional 4 Jogscotland leaders.  Many of our members have been amazed at the progress they make from walking and jogging for 30 seconds at a time to jogging continually for up to an hour.  Members have seen improvements in their level of fitness as well as their general health.  All our members have benefited greatly from the support, enthusiasm and friendly atmosphere of the group .

FEBUARY 2012

‘Still Running' Dufftown Jogscotland is gearing up for an exciting time ahead in this year of the London 2012 Olympics. To bring the spirit of the games closer to us in Moray, Moray 2012 will be hosting a series of community-based events which will complement and commemorate London 2012.
The 5 events include:

  • Torch relay around Moray's main towns and villages including Dufftown, for 2,012 participants,
    A 10k in Buckie,
    A 3k in Elgin
  • Relay races in Forres,
  • And our very own annual 5k in Dufftown.

These events are promoted and co-ordinated by the Walk-Jog-Run in Moray Partnership which ‘Still Running' Dufftown Jogscotland is a part of.
The torch relay will start in Elgin on June the 8th and finish back in the town on June the 13th. In between it will visit 14 other communities and cover 113 miles. The Torch relay will reach Dufftown on Monday the 11th of June and head over to Aberlour taking in Craigellachie via the Speyside way. This is a chance for all sections the community of Dufftown, Craigellachie and surrounding area to play a key role in the events. Regardless of age, shape, size and ability it would be fantastic to see as many people involved as possible in this exciting event. It's the taking part and making a contribution that counts. People can walk, jog or run with the torch for the whole distance between Dufftown and Aberlour or as little as a few yards. Remember you need to register on the Moray 2012 section of the website.

The fifth and final event will be our annual Dufftown 5k which takes place on Saturday August the 11th at 5.30pm. As usual walkers, joggers and runners will be welcome to take part.

For details of all the events clink on the Moray 2012 page.

Still Running' Dufftown Jogscotland 5k fun run (Aug 2009)

'Still Running' Dufftown Jog Scotland held a 5K Fun Run last Saturday (15th August 2009) to celebrate the group's First Anniversary. With the weather holding fair after a showery start it was a delighted Jog Leader Audrey Benvie who welcomed 68 entrants in the British Legion Hall before the group moved outside for a warm up session taken by Carol Flett, Dufftown local aerobics instructor.

After the warm up, the entrants walked up Balvenie Street to The Clock Tower where they were met by members of Dufftown Pipe Band who lead the 60 plus group of entrants to the starting point at the top of Conval Street. Kim Paterson, Moray Council Sports Development Officer went over last minute preparations regarding the 5K route before local GP Dr Henegan sounded the klaxon to start the run.

One pleasing aspect of the run was the number of entrants who took the opportunity to walk or walk/jog the route while the more serious entrants pounded ahead. Audrey Benvie said,” Jog Scotland is very much about getting people fitter and recognises that not everyone is a natural athletic and I was pleased that people felt confident enough to complete the run without feeling the pressure to achieve a personal best or avoid coming in last.”

As run times were being confirmed, all entrants had the opportunity to partake of a buffet in The Legion Hall before presentations were made. All entrants on the day who had completed their first 5K were given a commemorative medal and others went away with a variety of spot-prizes which had been donated by local companies and individuals.

The youngest entrant was Kirstie Rogan from Forres Harriers. Furthest afield entrant was Mark Hyder from Ontario in Canada. Audrey Benvie received from Dufftown Jog Scotland members an inscribed pocket watch with stand and a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her hard work and dedication in her role as Jog Leader. Tanya Learmouth, Dufftown Jog member also received a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her attendance and efforts since she started the group in August of last year.

Audrey Benvie, Jog Leader thanked all who turned up on the day to participate before thanking all those who had supported and help organise the 5K event, including Dufftown Well North project, Moray Sports Development Department and 'Still Running' Dufftown Jogscotland. A 1st Birthday bash Disco was held in The British Legion from 7pm till midnight as the final event in the group's 1st anniversary celebrations.

Proceeds from the day will go towards The League of Friends, Stephen Hospital, Duffown, Dufftown Pipe Band and 'Still Running' Dufftown JogScotland group. Due the success of the day it is hoped to make it an annual event.
