JS Fochabers Information

Fochabers runners love the outdoor life and making the most of the fantstic woodland and River Spey trails in the area.

We love running hills and have 'effort' sessions on a Tuesday evening to improve on basic running skills.

We welcome all people of all ages (16+) and all abilities.

We have a unique warm-down routine which features the famous 'oo-la-la' stretch....

Summer Training

We continue to meet at the playing field in Fochabers at 6.30pm every Thursday evening.  This is a Jog Scotland session but is open to all comers and a faster group normally take themselves off for a longer, swifter run up in the woods.

Quality Sessions now take place on a Tuesday evening at 6.30pm, meeting at the same place for all runners wanting to improve their speed and include interval sessions, hills and fartleck amongst other killer sessions.  Rachel has some great new phrases to motivate you(?)!  Sessions open to runners of all abilities, although absolute beginners would be advised to attend a few weeks of Jog Scotland first.  The group trains together, but everyone works to their own ability with a general warm up first and then about 30 - 40 minutes of 'efforts'.

August 2010 - Spey Runners social event

We are holding the first of our Spey Runners Social Events on 21st August . This will be the first of many social and fund raising events that will be held throughout the year. Please come along and show your support for the club. We are holding a BBQ which will be paid for through the ticket money, but we could use your help with bringing along all the yummy things to go along with the meat! If you would like to contribute anything for the buffet or a pudding then please contact Yvonne James ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). She will coordinate to be sure we don't end up with 20 Tattie Salads and no Cheesecake! We will be holding a raffle with any money raised going towards club funds for further events and affiliation with Scottish Athletics. Please rally round and pass anything you have for a raffle onto Nick Webster. Tickets are available from the usual suspects - Nick, George, Rachel, and Ross for just £5. When you get your ticket please indicate if you plan to take part in the fun run/walk. FOCHABERS JOG SCOTLAND

GET FIT FOR SUMMER!

The light nights are just round the corner, with the clocks going forward at the end of March. It’s about this time that we start booking summer beach holidays and begin to look out our summer wardrobe, and the longer days and finer weather makes us want to get outside more – not least after the extremely long and hard winter we’ve had this year. So, in order to tone and shape up as well as get fit to enjoy the outdoors, Fochabers Jog Scotland, part of Spey Runners, hopes to play an important part in raising pulse rates and helping get people fit on Speyside.

Are you freaking out at your post winter extra padding that has suddenly appeared? Scared about wearing a bikini on your summer trip? Or just want to get outdoors after been trapped inside for so long? Whatever the reason, jogging can help you! Jogging is a proven weight-loss exercise that will help you be more active and therefore healthier.

You may think "you are not a runner" but we beg to differ! With the jogscotland programme anyone can run as long as they can put one foot in front of the other!

jogscotland has had over 19,000 people through the programme, and has 300 groups in local communities and in workplaces; we are getting bigger all the time!

From Thursday, 1st April 2010, and every Thursday thereafter, the Fochabers Jog Scotland Group will be welcoming new members of all abilities, but especially beginners, to those who joined the inaugural fitness push in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Jog Scotland is the national jogging network for Scotland and runs jogging sessions for complete beginners to lapsed and ex-runners and to those with a high fitness level.

The programme last year was extremely successful. Beginners who joined the group in July were found competing in the River Ness 10k in October, achieving times well under the hour (for those of us of a certain age, 10k = 6 and a bit miles!!).

Amanda Jones, a newly qualified Job Scotland leader in Fochabers, said "We are hoping that this Jog Scotland programme will encourage people who are doing little or no exercise to get active. The programmes are really gentle and suitable for adults of any age or fitness level. I started in September with the group, having run as a teenager, but done very little since. It was hard at first, but with perseverance and the support of the group, I was encouraged to become a leader myself. The group have kept going throughout the cold and snowy winter months. Some of us have even joined the Spey Runners on a Tuesday night for extra training! We hope that some of those who joined us last summer will return with the lighter nights to regain fitness levels and push on to the next stage of running. We are a really sociable and fun group to take part in".

Fochabers Jog Scotland aims to provide a cheap, simple and safe way of exercising.

The group meets in Fochabers and will run each Thursday evening, meeting for a 6.30 start at the pavilion and football pitch in Fochabers.

Note to editors – Jog Scotland is the nation's very own jogging network. Through co-ordinated programmes of walking, jogging and running delivered at a local level, Jog Scotland is widening participation and contributing to improvements in the physical activity levels and health of the Scottish population. Jog Scotland was established in 2002 by Scottish Athletics and is supported by the Scottish Executive, Sports Scotland and NHS Health Scotland as part of Scotland's healthy living campaign.

Jog Scotland trains leaders and provides support, advice and promotion for jogging groups across the country and local communities and in work place settings.

Jog Scotland organises the Co-op Jog Scotland 5K Challenge Runs throughout the summer and is in the process of developing a junior Jog Scotland programme to encourage physical activity in the younger generation.

Sunday, 6th Dec 2009

JS Fochabers successfully hosted the 2009 Moray 5k Winter Challenge. Well done to all concerned (see Jog Moray Events for results).

Sunday, 14th June 2009

Congratulations on completing their first 5k race to:

Gaenor Arrands

Richard Russell

Emma Proctor

Gaenor has never walked 5k before to day, so to complete the distance without stopping and walking once is a remarkable achievement.  Richard and Emma also performed incredibly well, neither stopping to walk.  Congratulations are also due to Mark Smith, a Fochabers Jog Scotland member since 2007, who completed the race in a higly respectable 20 minutes and 30 seconds.

Thursday, 14th May 2009

Our first AGM was held on 14th May 2009 and saw an inaugral committee being elected:

MINUTES

Present Rachel Bromby, David Stockdale, Bruce Blackwood, Susan Stronach, Donna Nash, Bill Cunningham, George Young, Mark Smith, Gaenor Arands, Emma Proctor, Catherine Stark, Gillian Nicoll, Kate Borland

Apologies Karen Smith, Jean Johnstone, Ross Hall, Rob Scott

Date 14th May 2009 • opened at 7.10pm • closed at 7.45pm

1 Welcome and Introduction Rachel Bromby welcomed all to the meeting and explained why a meeting had been called. For the group to progress and raise funds and bank account needed to be opened, and to do this a committee formed. The current financial status was confirmed at £92.65 raised through spare kitty money after social events. This was held by Ross Hall

2 Election of Officers The following nominations were received and voted on

2.1 Chairman Rachel Bromby – nominated by George Young; seconded by Mark Smith

2.2 Secretary David Stockdale – nominated by George Young; seconded by Rachel Bromby

2.3 Treasurer Ross Hall – nominated by Rachel Bromby; seconded by Mark Smith

2.4 Membership Secretary George Young – nominated by Rachel Bromby; seconded by Susan Stronach

2.5 Social Secretary Susan Stronach – nominated by Bruce Blackwood; seconded by Mark Smith

2.6 General Committee Members Mark Smith & Rob Scott – nominated by George Young; seconded by Rachel Bromby The committee was duly appointed.

3 Constitution A draft constitution was circulated. It was agreed that the committee would meet separately to discuss and agree the format of the club constitution before proposing this to the membership committee

4 Annual Subscription A proposal for an annual subscription was made by Rachel Bromby. It was suggested that the charge would be £5 for all members, with subscriptions due on 1st June. Regardless of when a runner joined the group, the full £5 would be due. Funds raised would go towards training new leaders, first aid equipment, running equipment, police checks for leaders etc. It was noted that some of these items may also attract sponsorship or grant funding. Bill Cunningham enquired whether £5 was sufficient and after discussion it was agreed that this would be trialled at this rate and it was thought that it would be enough and would not put people off joining the group. After discussion, an introduction of the £5 subscription was proposed and passed by a majority vote.

5 Fundraising/Social Events There was a general discussion about future social events. This will be for the newly appointed social secretary to arrange, and help would be given in the future!

6 Jog Leaders Susan Stronach, Mark Smith and Rob Scott were all keen to attend Jog Leader training and would be registered for this at the next possible opportunity.

7 6.30pm Start Time The meeting was urged to get word round that ideally members should meet just before 6.30pm so that the run could start on time and members requiring to be back for 7.30pm for childcare etc could get a full hour’s training.

8 Race List Rachel Bromby asked if people found the race list valuable. It was agreed that this was helpful, although not all members could open the email attachment so copies would be available on Thursday evenings.

9 Any Other Business

9.1 Deer Park Dash It was agreed that the mile time trial would be run again throughout the summer to help people measure their own progress. The course would be reversed from the 2008 route and re-named the Deer Park Dash. A prize would be available for the most improved time during the year. The first Dash of the season to be held 4th June 2009 and publicised in advance.
