JS Keith Juniors Information

January

Thanks to Kim for these pictures, she managed to capture smiling, effort, speed and even Catherine McAskie running with no trainers on.........a real trend setter !

An excellent turnout by the boys and girls of Keith Juniors, many running against much old children. A crisp and sunny day at Quarrelwood Elgin, with a slightly muddy course that most of the juniors enjoyed even if mum’s washing machine was working extra hard after the races. Again some really good performances with a top 10 finish for Lucy Grant and Hannah Gill making her mark for the U13 girls.

Well done to all the Keith Juniors, who turned out when Keith & District hosted the North District Cross Country fixture on Saturday 29th October. There were some creditable performances and the course conditions were muddy enough for the kids to enjoy but not bad enough to worry the mums washing machines. Overall the weather conditions were very favourable and thanks to all the parents for coming along to support.

July

The next block of sessions for the Keith Junior Athletics Club will be starting on Wed 6th July from 6.15-7.00pm.  The new location will be Seafield Park in Keith (Keith Showground).  The reason for change of venue is due to the playing fields at the Community Centre being cordoned off for ground repair work.  This block will continue right up until the October holidays and will be £5 fee for whole block.  Anyone interested in joining please come along on a Wed night or phone 07814 203502.

June

The final session of the first block of Keith Junior Athletics Club took place on Wed 29th June.  Even although having the circus in town and the local Stagestars production taking place on the same night, 15 juniors came along for the final fun night.  The group were split up into teams and took part in some fun races and relays at the Den Playing Fields.  They did all this with smiles on their faces as the rain lashed down!  The group then went into the Den Woods to take part in some scramble hill climbs and running races which was great fun.  Prizes for all in attendance for their great sportsmanship at the end of the night.

Several of the junior squad made the trip over to Quarrelwood on Wednesday night the 15th June. Competing in the under 11 category and top Keith junior was Lucy Grant finishing 9th in a time of 6:28. A little further down the field we had Scott Barron 6:55, Eoin Rettie 6:56, Kate Garrow 7:21, Mathew Stepney 7:22, Rosie Winchester 7:53, Laura Logie 7:59, Hannah Riddoch 08:06 Kelsie Neish 8:12 and Becky Neish 9:08. The next forest run is on Wednesday 29th June at Monaughty.

April

Congratulations to Callum Morrison who finished in an excellent 11th place at the Balmoral running events last weekend. Competing in the Secondary Schools age group Callum's time of 08:08 for the 2.5k course was just 41 seconds behind the winner. Well Done !

The Keith Juniors Wednesday night session continues to be well supported by children and coaches alike. The recent good weather has helped and the children can expect a session of varied activities to keep their interest going.

February

Jog Scotland Keith and Keith and District Amateur Athletics Club have been working together
recently to discuss the potential of creating a Junior Athletics Group. It is hoped to start this new group towards the end of March following coach education training by local leaders/coaches. The Moray Council Sports Development team are currently delivering free junior athletics
sessions in Keith through funding obtained from the Proceeds of Crime Act. These sessions are currently being attended by 46 youngsters so it is imperative that there is a pathway for these youngsters to continue their participation in athletics when this ten week block comes to an end.  More info to follow.  In the meantime, any comments/feedback on this area please contact Kim Paterson on 07814 203502

Happy New Year !

A fantastic start to the Keith Cashback for Communities Athletics sessions on Thursday evening with 30 children turning up! Due of the vast interest we are running 2 free hour long sessions on a Thursday at Keith Sports and Community Centre for children age 9 – 14years.

Children have the opportunity at these sessions to experience the disciplines of athletics that they may not have tried before in a fun and safe environment.

The sessions are all aimed at fun skills and running games to ensure that all abilities are catered for and involved in maximum participation whilst gaining confidence and success at trying new skills.

Fingers crossed that we can have something in place after this 10 week block to continue with a running/athletics club in Keith through both JS and K&DAAC over the summer months.

If anyone is free on a Thursday afternoon and fancies going down and giving a hand feel free it will be greatly appreciated, and think of the fun you will have too!

The sessions are from 3.30-4.30pm & 4.30-5.25pm.

For more information please contact Susan Johnston on 07719961418 or Moray Council Sports Development on 01343 563657.

June 2009

Last Monday (22nd June), a 1.5mile junior fun run was organised by Jog Leader, Susan Johnston at Keith Community Centre.  The event attracted 22 participants from the Junior Jog Scotland sections of Buckie and Keith.  Due to Susan's dodgy knee the course was marked out by some local Keith gurus to ensure no one went the wrong way.  All participants thoroughly enjoyed the event as they received refreshments on completion of the race and a certificate to take home.  All participants received their individual completion times and the intention is that the same route will be used for a future junior event and participants can aim to improve on their previous time which will act as a personal goal for them.  Here are some pictures of the event;
